Here’s what COLT graduates have said about the program.

If you want to speak to someone about their COLT experience we can supply references. Contact Jim Miller,  jim@colt.bc.ca.

“I started my COLT semester wanting to learn about mountains and knew I would learn about lakes, rivers, and oceans as an extra. I was then going to start my nursing program after and train to become an expedition medic. By the end of my semester, the wilderness had stolen my soul and I could not go back right away. In the end I would not have chosen a different program, since in 100 days I learned about my planet in such a way that gave me the passion to teach other people about it. I then spent the next two summer seasons teaching people and exploring land and water with people. COLT and the people I spent time with changed the course of my life. Although I am now a nursing student getting ready to move up north and work in a remote community in the heart of nature, if I had not taken COLT I would never have learned how to travel in all conditions or to teach people about the wonder of our world. I completed the practicum as well and I would never have met the many people who have mentored me and become my support system had I not done COLT and then continued on the path that my new discovereis directed me to. The three years that I spent on and off at the lodge will probably be remembered at the best years of my life filled with challenge, learning, and accomplishments.”
Melissa Faulkner – COLT Spring 2006

“COLT had a very positive effect on me.  I was already a fairly experienced outdoorsman, but COLT showed me how to gain the most from the mountains, rivers and ocean in this beautiful but sometimes unforgiving part of the world.  I was able to develop my technical skills to a much higher level and feel quite at home in adverse conditions.  The staff were second to none (After 20 years in the military I’ve had my share of instructing staff) and a pleasure to learn from.  But by far the greatest impression on me was left by the Lodge itself and the camaraderie of my fellow COLTies.  I still go on trips with some of my COLT buddies, and hopefully will continue to do so, but COLT cannot be bettered for its perfect mix of new friends, new places and experiences, and World-Class outdoor instruction.”
Mike Lester - COLT Fall 2008

“COLT took us to the middle of nowhere which is where i wanted to go.  COLT allowed us to do things that you don’t normally get to do.  It gave me the skills to then get there and do those things on my own time.  For the rest of my life I will feel at home in the middle of nowhere.”
